Do you reside in another county in California but want to be married in San Francisco? No problem, each of the counties honor each others marriage certificates, so you can bring the one issued from where you reside. Just ensure you’re wedding date happens before the license (License and Certificate of Marriage) expires which is 90-days after issuance.
Coming to California from out-of-state and want to be married? No problem, same rules and process applies.
Thinking you can come to San Francisco and pop into City Hall without a prior appointment, get your license and be married the same day….that’s definitely a NO. Because of it’s world-wide popularity, the San Francisco County Clerk’s office issues marriage licenses by appointment only. You can register for an appointment online with their office click here.
